Give the lawn about 1 inch of water a week (including rain), in one or two deep waterings rather than a little every day. Avoid evening watering where you can: grass that stays wet overnight is more prone to disease. - [New sod watering schedule](https://wateringday.app/guides/new-sod-watering-schedule.md): Water new sod right after it is laid until the soil underneath is soaked, then several short waterings a day for the first 10 days, once a day for the next three weeks, and then switch to your normal schedule of deep watering once or twice a week. Check by lifting a corner: the soil below should be moist, not soggy. - [How often to water new grass seed](https://wateringday.app/guides/watering-new-grass-seed.md): Until the seed sprouts, keep the top inch of soil constantly moist with light watering once or twice a day (two or three times in hot, sunny spots). When the seedlings are about an inch tall, water every other day with about ¼ inch, then every third day with ½ inch, and after that about 1 inch every 5–7 days. ## Optional - [Full text of every utility page](https://wateringday.app/llms-full.txt)
